Surrendering your Black Russian Terrier
There are many reasons why it sometimes becomes necessary to surrender a pet for rehoming. If you have not already done so, you are encouraged to contact your dog’s breeder as soon as possible. Many purchase contracts require that the breeder be notified first and given the opportunity to take their puppy back if the original owner is no longer able to care for it for any reason. Ethical breeders will always assist with rehoming in most instances.
As a rescue organization, you will not be judged for this decision. Life has many unexpected turns. We are very thankful that you chose Rescue rather than a shelter, pound, abandonment or euthanasia of your pet.
It is our goal to find the best forever home for your Black Russian Terrier. We will ask many questions about your Blackie, as such information will assist us in matching your dog with a compatible new home. A Black Russian Terrier is not for everyone, so please be open and honest with your answers so your dog can be assessed as quickly as possible and placed appropriately.
Before you surrender your pet to the BRTRA, have you:
1) Read your purchase contract. Many breeders have a clause that if for any reason you are unable to keep your dog, you must contact them first. We do work with many breeders in North America to assist in rehoming their prodigy.
2) Be prepared to be very honest with the BRTRA. It is in the best interests of the BRT that we know every issue the dog may have, including but not limited to social, behavioral, and health. We want what is the very best for the dog and this information can make the difference in a successful rehome or the dog being rehomed yet another time. If the dog has behavioral issues, there are volunteers and homes available that are capable of working with the dogs to overcome these issues.
After you have made the decision to release your dog to the BRTRA, you will be asked to fill out a surrender form and sign a release of ownership of the dog to the Black Russian Terrier Rescue Organization. Please provide the name, phone number and address of your dog's veterinarian and a list of all vaccinations.
